Therapy gives you the confidential space to talk honestly about what’s happening in your life.
For some, asking for help can be one of the hardest parts of dealing with a difficult period in life.
You may be used to keeping things to yourself, dealing with problems on your own or simply getting on with things even when you’re struggling.
Perhaps you’ve reached a point where the usual ways of coping aren’t working anymore.
You might be experiencing anxiety, stress, low mood, relationship difficulties, anger, loss or a feeling that you’re no longer quite yourself.
You don’t need to have everything figured out before coming to therapy.
You just need somewhere you can begin to talk and be heard.
I’m Níall McGuire, an IACP-accredited Integrative Psychotherapist based in Cork City Centre.
I have over six years’ experience in private practice and have completed more than 1,000 clinical hours working with adults.
My approach to therapy is collaborative, straightforward and without judgement.
Therapy isn’t about being told what you should do.
It’s an opportunity to step back from the pressures of everyday life and have an honest conversation about what you’re experiencing.
Together, we can explore what’s happening, understand patterns that may be affecting you and consider what you would like to change.
What might bring you to therapy?
People come to therapy for many different reasons.
You may be dealing with:
- Anxiety or excessive worry
- Work-related stress or pressure
- Low mood or depression
- Relationship difficulties
- Problems with confidence or self-esteem
- Anger or difficulty managing emotions
- Bereavement or loss
- A major change in your life
- Feeling stuck or disconnected
- Difficult past experiences
- Questions about your identity or direction in life
You don’t need a diagnosis to come to therapy.
Sometimes you simply know that things aren’t working the way they used to.
That is enough reason to talk.
A space where you don’t have to put on a front
Many people become accustomed to being the person other people rely on.
You may be expected to cope at work, support your family, maintain relationships and keep moving forward even when things are difficult.
There can be very little space to ask:
“How am I actually doing?”
Therapy gives you that space.
You can talk openly about things you may not feel comfortable discussing with friends, family or colleagues.
You don’t have to perform, have the right words or know exactly what you need.
We can start with whatever is happening for you now.
An integrative approach
As an Integrative Psychotherapist, I draw from different therapeutic perspectives rather than believing that one approach is suitable for everyone.
The therapy is shaped around you, your experiences and what you want to achieve.
The relationship between therapist and client is an important part of the work.
My aim is to provide an environment that is respectful, confidential and non-judgemental, while also giving you the opportunity to look honestly at the things that may be holding you back.

You can simply get in touch and tell me a little about what’s bringing you to therapy.
We can then arrange an initial appointment and see whether I might be the right therapist for you.
